The atlas and the nervous system
The atlas zone sits directly around the brainstem, the part of the nervous system that regulates arousal, breathing and sleep. Constant muscular tension here acts like a low-level alarm the body cannot switch off. Insomnia is the most common of all sleep disorders. When it occurs more than three nights a week for more than three months it is chronic, and it feeds fatigue, low mood and headache during the day.
What the correction does
The Atlas Zone method resets the upper neck vertebrae and neutralises the stress held in that area. Very often an unfamiliar, deep relaxation appears spontaneously at the top of the neck, directly under the skull. This is what allows most clients to sleep well again. Many also report dreaming more in the weeks after, which we see as a sign of tension and fatigue being released.
Atlas Zone Therapy has brought a significant improvement in my quality of sleep, with greater ease of falling asleep and a beautiful feeling of freshness upon waking. All of this unfolded already after the first session.
A note on cause
Atlas correction is not a sleeping pill. If your insomnia has a clear cause such as sleep apnoea, shift work or a medical condition, that still needs addressing. What the correction does is remove a physical source of alertness that keeps many people from settling, and it often makes other measures work better.
